This is just what the hopeful author considering POD Publishing needs. What do you get for the $8.95 price of this little book? Eighty-plus pages of straight talk designed to educate and inform authors BEFORE they decide to hire a fee-based, print-on-demand publisher. This valuable volume explains in simple terms what a POD publisher is and how they came about. Bailee takes authors by the hand through the process of POD. She explains authors' rights, the concept of royalties, fees and contracts, and tackles the reality of book promotion and sales.
One thing I particularly like about Bailee's book is that she urges authors to take their time in choosing a publishing method for their particular project. She says, for example, "Don't rush into the publication process. It's not worth it. Heed the advice of those who have gone before for it can save a lot—not only emotionally but monetarily as well." And she recommends joining chat groups and message boards (such as those we have at SPAWN).
She talks seriously about the editing process. She says, "Having a good editor is like finding out which way the wind blue, bleu or blew." And she offers a whole chapter on how to choose an editor appropriate to each project.
When you finish with this quick read, you will have a clearer idea about which publishing process is best for you. As a bonus, Bailee has included several of her own real life publishing experiences.
Dehanna Bailee could be considered an expert on fee-based publishers as she maintains a complete database of PODs. Take a peek at http://www.dehanna.com. You can also purchase her book at this site.
